DSI Exploration Week (DEW) launched successfully across grade levels centered around G7, G9, G10PP, and G11, setting a strong foundation for the new academic year. Designed with the IB Programme Framework at its core, DEW introduces students to three interconnected dimensions of school life: the academic curriculum, co- curricular activities (CCAs), and the affective curriculum.
In the academic strand, students explored subject groups as holistic units of learning rather than isolated disciplines. Through structured inquiry, they examined the basic assumptions, types of knowledge, methodologies, real-life applications, and skills developed within each subject group—helping them understand what makes each subject group distinct while identifying connections across them. This approach prepares students to become competent co-constructors of their own learning from day one.
In the co-curricular strand, students were exposed to a breadth of CCA options grouped into clubs and societies, physical sports, and visual and performing arts. The sessions highlighted how CCAs contribute to identity formation, camaraderie, and personal and community well-being, making clear that CCAs are co-equal with the academic and affective strands of the DSI curriculum.
In the affective strand, activities promoted self-awareness, interpersonal skills, and emotional resilience through reflective practices, collaborative learning, and scenario-based exercises. The IB Learner Profile attributes—such as Caring, Reflective, Balanced, and Communicators—were explicitly integrated, alongside ATL skills including social skills (collaboration, empathy), self-management skills (emotional regulation, resilience), and communication skills (active listening, effective interaction). By weaving together academic inquiry, co-curricular discovery, and affective growth, DEW ensures that every student begins the year with clarity, confidence, and a sense of belonging to the DSI community.
